Nehemiah 4:20 - At whatever place you hear the sound of the trumpet, rally to us there. Our God will fight for us.
I’ve been reading Nehemiah and I found this little, beautiful nugget: When we are faced with an unwinnable battle, that is when we can cry out to our God, our rescuer for help. Jehovah Rohi means God our Shepherd. Our Shepherd not only provides for us, but He protects us. There is a video online of a man pulling sheep out of a deep crevice. As soon as the sheep is clear, he bounds away only to fall right back into the same crevice a few feet away. I can so relate to that sheep!! The hope we have is that we know our Jehovah Rohi will come to our rescue every time!! He will never ever give up on you if you are a child of God. He fights for you. We may never fully understand just how much He fights for us!
There are times when I have been so beaten down by the world that I don’t have the words to ask for help. I don’t have the strength to cry out to Him. That is when the Holy Spirit will intervene for me and come to my wounded spirit and speak God’s truth over me. He is a compassionate, loving, caring God. He will not break a bruised reed (Isaiah 42:3). Scripture is full of examples of how God lifts the lowly and broken. No matter how bruised or beaten you may feel, God is right there lifting you up out of that deep crevice.
If you do not belong to Him yet, it is very simple to surrender and ask Him to be your Lord and Savior. It is so simple a child can do it. The first step is to admit you are a sinner. The second step is to believe that God sent Jesus Christ to die on the cross for your sins, as a way to have a relationship with Him. The third step is to confess that you want Jesus Christ to be your Lord and Savior. You can make this decision by simply praying this prayer, “Dear Lord Jesus, I know I am a sinner. I believe You died for my sins. Right now, I turn from my sins and open the door of my heart and life. I confess You as my personal Lord and Savior. Thank You for saving me. Amen.” If you prayed that prayer, you are now a child of God. The Jehovah Rohi is now fighting for you!
Of course, the first step of surrender is usually the easiest. Any Christian that has been at it awhile can tell you, working to be more like Christ is a feat that all believers struggle with at times. One of the most amazing things about God is that He loves us right where we are and will never give up on us! His mercy and grace know no end. We are all a work in progress, and Praise God He is not done with us yet!
